Travel Retail - A unique & distinct market in the EU
The ETRC is pleased to confirm that the next Business Forum will now take place on Thursday, 29 January 2009 at the Crowne Plaza City Centre “Le Palace” Hotel in Brussels. This must attend event will address the most pressing issues impacting the EU’s travel retail industry.
Today, travel retail is in a rapidly expanding regulatory environment, ranging from increasing national legislation on providing more product information to consumers, proposed restrictions on the trade’s ability to merchandise and retail its brands, EU action to address concerns about environmental issues and the growing pressure from NGOs to address issues associated with many of the products that are the foundation of the travel retail business in Europe. It is now time that the unique nature of the EU’s travel retail trade was recognised by the EU and a standard set of rules established for the business that treats the industry equally in all Member States.
Industry executives, senior politicians and representatives from the EU institutions will debate the key issues affecting the trade today and how these can be influenced going forward. Following a keynote address from the President of the European Parliament (to be confirmed), the Forum will provide a stimulating programme about the future direction of the industry.
ETRC President, Frank O’Connell, commented: “We are determined to provide the industry with a programme at the 2009 event that will offer participants the opportunity to take part in a thought provoking debate about the future shape of our business. I urge everyone to note this important conference in their diaries as a key starting point to the new year.”
Register online now at the TFWA website. The 2009 Business Forum will be managed by the TFWA on behalf of ETRC.
